 Evelyn Arvey

Evelyn Arvey never met a creative project she didn’t like. From a young age, she drew, painted, knitted, crocheted, played the viola and the piano, and read everything she could get her hands on. Writing fiction wasn’t far behind – Evelyn’s first short story was written when she was only six years old, on her mother’s Royal typewriter (what a wonderful, noisy creature!) and it started like this: “My friend Ruthy is very very very very nice.” Ever since, she’s had a personal war with the word “very.”

Evelyn studied oil painting (and creative writing, and textile art, and ceramic art, and jewelry fabrication, and so much more) while earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Washington. For fifteen years, she created jewelry in her home studio and sold her work at local fine arts shows such as the Bellevue Arts Fair and the Best of the Northwest.

All along, Evelyn was writing novels and short stories. She published many of them in literary magazines and with small publishers, including the novels “America’s Darlings” and “Inn on the Edge," which are unfortunately no longer in print.

She also co-wrote a book of short stories, “We Grew Tales,” with local writers and good friends Nancy Bonnington and Susan Whiting Kemp.

Evelyn teaches an adult creative writing course with her University Professor husband, Richard, at the Swedish MS Center in Seattle. She edited an anthology, “Stories From our Center: Lives Challenged by MS,” written by people living with Multiple Sclerosis. She is currently working on editing a second anthology.

Evelyn lives in Seattle, WA with her husband and their four cats.
